"Freedom in Australia" - everyone has freedom in OZ - free to vote; free to buy property; free education; free to seek employment ; free to travel ; free to seek a political life etc etc  in fact some people have 'special' free rights to live on identified traditional lands and freedom to hunt on land and sea where non-Indigenous peoples do not have that right and can be charged with trespassing and killing protected species.

I mix professionally and socially with Indigeous politicans, doctors, teachers, psychologists, social workers, police officers, bank workers, nurses, sports persons and priests and so the list goes on. Yes Australia the land of the free.

I think things have changed considerably in Oz as regards those of Aboriginal descent. It's true that in the early days they were even considered 'game' and could be hunted, but that was by the early English settlers who were more attuned to being convict containers with no particular restrictions on cruelty. As Davo says there are now doctors, cops, nurses etc with aboriginal origins. Yes, I presume there are still arguments about land seized by the white authorities just as there is here in NZ. I know in the case of our Maori, land was not "owned" it was "in the custody of" so there were misconceptions, when some Englishman gave an axe in what he thought was an exchange but was in fact, access.

Australia and it's indigenous Aboriginal population.

I'm no expert so will doubtless be shot down or called a nerd but ..

Australia's longest strike was by Aboriginal workers which lasted from 1946 to 1949.
In short they were demanding a minimum wage instead of been paid in food and goods.
A commission had been undertaken in 1944 .. where it reported that ..
"There is an advantage in native labour ... they are not sufficiently advanced to appreciate white conditions ... I [therefore] doubt whether any monetary increases will help them much."

Up until as late as 1968 it seems many weren't even allowed to leave the sheep stations where they worked.
I'd call that more than exploiting Aborigines ... I'd call it 20th Century slavery.

More recently, as late as November 2016.

Indigenous Australians were threatening to close Uluru because it is leased by them to the Federal Government and they only receive 7% of the royalties from tourism to Ayers Rock Resort (the gateway to Uluru).
As one Aboriginal spokesman explained ..
On one side of the rock they are living in poverty ... whilst on the other commercial tourism is making millions and exploiting a living culture that is dying.

It seems Australia have a long way to go before they can claim they are the land of the free or one of the most successful multicultural countries on the planet.

selective garbage I would say  - ever been to OZ by any chance?

I wasn't in a concentration camp in 1940's Germany but I know they existed.

Still .. we've reached some common ground now. I'll tell you whenever you post selective garbage about the UK and we'll largely be able to agree with each other and have amicable discussions.

Why don't we all pick on France - for me a very juicy target.

(Oh  - I forget - they banned the burqa in public so at long last they did something right).
