Whilst I would consider them usurpers of the true throne as outlined in Tony Robinsons excellent doco I wouldn't consider them as parasites in this respect I would agree more with Alan here. and we must remember that as one of the few monarchies left in the world they do have a huge tourist attraction and are great supporters of many charities. Much of their properties are owned by the state not them personally and her actual 'salary' from the govt each year is paltry compared to some of those sleazbags name by alan above!

Oh yes, I couldn't agree more about the overpaid you and Alan mentioned
I agree the tourist aspect is still important, but monarchy by heredity is, indeed , an anachronism. No reflection on the actual persons who are doing the job, which is by no means stressfree.

Why don't we all adopt the North Korea model - a free republic and a hereditary figurehead all in one. drum

Roll on the republic,at least we could vote for a president. I hate to see all the bowing and curtsying. They are only people after all, definitely not gods. They are no better than us.

I wasn't singling them out as exclusive parasites. As has been amply mentioned, there are loads of others tapping the system.

I can just see you waving the flag on the day president Blair is inaugurated. We might even be lucky enough to get a president truly representative of both the black and female communities - like Dianne Abbot.

You increasingly sound like Corbyn and Abbot andsome - only more strident.

The Royal family are an easy target for those blinded to all the good they do for the Country - and their role will be even more important after Brexit when we start to rebuild our commercial ties with the commonwealth and third World countries.
