PostSubject: Scans and X-Rays   Sat May 13, 2017 9:51 am

I had my kidney scan done this morning. Thankfully, there was no trouble at our hospital regarding the spread of the recent ransomware virus.

The scan was done on time despite the fact that one of the two CT scanners had broken down. The engineers have been out a few times to try and repair it but haven't succeeded. The staff are hoping the other one holds out OK.

The CT scan is so much easier than the way they used to look at my kidney. This was by X-Ray and it involved drinking plenty of water before a contrast dye was injected. Then they would put a belt around my middle so that the kidney couldn't pass water to the bladder. The belt had to be so tight that it was difficult to breathe fully. It was necessary to remain this way for about 15 minutes in order for the dye to build up in the kidney. It was sometimes a job not to panic.

Although the CT scan still involves a contrast dye being injected that makes the skin feel hot and gives the feeling of having wet oneself, it is far preferable to the old way. I rode my bicycle to and from the hospital and am now relaxing writing this.

The results of the scan will be known on the 14th of June.

I've had the old style x-ray for kidneys Mart .. very unpleasant and uncomfortable, that belt is so tight!

Fingers crossed for you with the result.
Bet you and Mrs Mart feel like you're running the Grand National just now if you've both having to hurdle appointments. Can be quite stressful in it's own way.

I have two appointments booked, one to see an ophthalmologist for a growth on my left lower eyelid and another for a diabetic retinopathy check.
Both of these appointments have been booked since February this year and both have been cancelled three times, they are now both due in early June

Good luck with those appointments Malcolm. It's annoying when appointments are cancelled.
