PostSubject: Bad Backs   Fri Jul 07, 2017 11:33 am

yesterday my back went again which it does quiet often.
So on goes my back belt which helps with some support.
Trouble is can't go far and my brother had a fall a couple of nights ago,so I am unable to
visit him in hospital.but my sister will go.
Everything happens at once.

You want to be very careful of your back Meerkat. My wife spent her last eleven years in bed, apart from a couple of hours a day when she forced herself out of it, with three fragmented discs. Not a very pleasent lifestyle. Take care.

Sorry to read of your problems Meerkat. I once heard that backs are particularly vulnerable because the joints are not really designed for us to walk upright. We might need some more evolution to occur before our backs will cope with what we ask of them.

I've been laid up a few times with a bad back due to lifting those early colour televisions about. I can suffer a bit of back pain even now from time to time, I think as a result of the job I did.

Mrs Mart is a martyr to her back to the point where she needs steroid injections in the top and bottom of her spine every three months in order to control the pain.

All in all, backs are pretty troublesome things to most of us sooner or later.

Mine is when the disc slips and pinches a nerve and gets inflamed.
Nothing they can do for mine, it has to right itself.

Could having the disc removed be an option Meerkat? I know that troublesome discs can be removed and the two joints either side somehow joined together. The flexibility of that joint is lost but the flexibility of the others is enough to cope when the back needs to bend.

I think a lot of common short-term back probs are muscular eventually curing themselves with rest.

This is true Malcolm. That's been the case with me.

I think disc problems are different. The trouble is that the disc being out of place or inflamed presses on nerves within the spinal column. This causes awful pain not only around the area of the disc but in the limbs or elsewhere. Sometimes, when the disc is damaged or troublesome, rest won't overcome the pain and surgery becomes a likely option.

Yes indeed Mart, my wife has a displaced synovial membrane in her right hip and is generaly OK the discomfort being tolerable, but as soon as she walks more than is good for her, she has to rest for a while before she can continue.
Her surgeon says it's probably best left alone as any surgical procedures could possibly make it worse !

Your right Mart it does affect other parts at the time that ache.
